For Royal Boch Frères Keramis ceramics, the mark ‘D. 1733’ does not refer to a date, but rather to a specific decorative pattern designed by Charles Catteau.
Although it resembles a year, it is in fact part of a system that Boch Frères used to catalogue their decorative designs.
This design number was assigned to a decorative style featuring stylised flowers on a coloured matte background.
Boch Frères was founded in 1841 by the Boch family, descendants of a French family with a long history in ceramics. They were awarded the title ‘Royal’ in recognition of their exceptional craftsmanship and creative achievements in the early 20th century.
